Example Of Illinois Bedsores Lawsuit

Back in 2011 there was an Illinois lawsuit filed regarding the development of bedsores in an Illinois nursing home resident.  This lawsuit is an example of alleged Illinois nursing home neglect that allegedly resulted in the formation, and lack of treatment of, severe decubitus ulcers.   (Decubitus ulcers are commonly referred to as bed sores, bedsores, and pressure ulcers.)

The lawsuit was featured in the Madison Record article of June 30, 2011, in an article titled “Calvin Johnson Care Center named in suit over bed sores.”  In this case the nursing home resident was Robert McLean, a resident of the Calvin Johnson Care Center, which is located in Belleville, Illinois.

An excerpt from the article:

According to the petition, McLean, a disabled man with a mental illness, was a resident of Calvin Johnson Care Center. At some point between February and March 2010, McLean allegedly developed several decubitus ulcers on his body that left him in intense pain.

McLean and Dirnberger accuse Eldercare of neglecting McLean and of violating Illinois’ Nursing Home Care Act. The Belleville elderly care center is also accused of negligence for allegedly failing to properly care for McLean and failing to train staff to adequately monitor him.

Additional details regarding this Illinois bed sores lawsuit can be seen in the Madison Record article mentioned above.

Lawsuit Involving Bedsores And Complications Filed Against Nursing Home

There has been a lawsuit filed over the alleged formation of bedsores in a nursing home resident, who later died from health complications due to the formation of the bedsores.

The lawsuit filed is against an Ohio nursing home, Shawnee Manor Nursing Home, over the death of a resident, Donald Ballard.

The patient’s condition, including the formation of bedsores and the lawsuit, is discussed in the August 15, 2014 limaohio.com article titled “Family of deceased man sues nursing home.”

A couple of excerpts from the article:

The staff at Shawnee Manor failed to identify the risk of pressure sores and did not properly care for Ballard leading to pressure ulcers on both heels, ankles and feet, which became infected, Courtney said in the lawsuit.

also:

The lawsuit said staff members at the nursing home were negligent in his treatment. The lawsuit said he suffered, and the family incurred medical and funeral expenses.

The article also discusses the progression of health problems that Ballard allegedly suffered due to the complications from the bedsores.  According to the lawsuit, these “numerous” infections included a urinary tract infection, pulmonary aspiration, and sepsis.

Additional details and possible updates concerning this lawsuit involving bedsores can be seen in the limaohio.com article mentioned above.
