Illinois Nursing Home Lawsuit Regarding Decubitus Ulcer

As frequently mentioned on this site, a variety of adverse health consequences can arise if bedsores (also frequently referred to as bed sores, pressure sores, and decubitus ulcers) are not immediately and properly treated.  It is because of these probable adverse health consequences that the occurrence of bedsores and their improper treatment is often the cause of lawsuits to be filed against nursing homes, both in Illinois as well as nationally.

A recent Illinois nursing home lawsuit concerning the formation and adverse health consequences of a decubitus ulcer is discussed in the February 3, 2015 Madison Record article titled “Woman blames Alton nursing home for relative’s ulcer.”  The lawsuit was filed by Sara Kleine on January 20, 2015 in Madison County Circuit Court, against the Alton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Steven Blisko.  The lawsuit regarded the alleged nursing home neglect regarding the care of Sharon Dunahee.

An excerpt from the article:

Because of the ulcer, the suit says Dunahee required surgical intervention, which led to a deteriorating physical condition. Klein claims Dunahee incurred significant medical costs, endured great pain and anguish and suffered a severe and permanent disability.

Kleine blames the nursing home staff for contributing to Dunahee’s injuries, saying they negligently failed to properly notify her next-of-kin regarding a significant deterioration in her physical status, failed to care for her in a manner that enhanced her dignity and quality of life and didn’t employ sufficient staff to provide adequate medical care.

Additional details regarding this Illinois nursing home lawsuit can be found in a variety of media sources including the Madison Record article mentioned above.
