Lawsuit Filed Regarding The Deterioration Of Pressure Sores

As frequently discussed on this site, pressure ulcers (also frequently referred to as pressure sores, bedsores, and bed sores) can lead to various adverse health consequences.  This is especially so if the pressure ulcers aren’t quickly – and properly – treated.  There have been many Illinois lawsuits regarding the alleged failure of various long-term health-care facilities (including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and hospitals) to identify and treat pressure sores in a timely manner, and in many of these incidents this alleged negligence has led to the death of the person who developed the pressure sores.  In those instances in which the person died from the worsening of pressure sores – and the decline in overall health that often results during such an occurrence – wrongful death lawsuits are often filed.

A recent lawsuit filed in the Cook County Circuit Court claims that the development and worsening of pressure ulcers led to the subsequent death of the nursing home resident. This lawsuit is discussed in the July 26, 2016 Cook County Record article titled “Estate administrator claims nursing home was negligent.”

As seen in the article the lawsuit claims negligence in nursing home care.  The nursing home resident (Bernice Taylor) allegedly developed pressure ulcers on her sacrum and bilateral heels.  She later died, allegedly from the deterioration in health that accompanied the worsening pressure ulcers.

Additional details can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Cook County Record article mentioned above.

Lawsuit Filed Regarding Sepsis That Followed Pressure Sores

As frequently discussed on this site, pressure ulcers (also frequently referred to as pressure sores, bedsores, and bed sores) can lead to various adverse health consequences, especially if the pressure ulcers aren’t quickly – and properly – treated.  Often, such pressure ulcers are very noticeable to third parties, and painful to those that have them.

One of the complications that can arise from pressure sores that are not properly and promptly treated is sepsis.  Various aspects of this affliction – which can be life-threatening and has led to many deaths – are discussed on the Sepsis page.

A recent wrongful death lawsuit claims that the development of pressure ulcers led to sepsis, and the subsequent death of the nursing home resident, is discussed in the July 27, 2016 Cook County Record article titled “Estate administrator blames nursing home for lethal disease.”

As seen in the article the wrongful death lawsuit was filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County regarding the death of nursing home resident Thomas Shelly.
